The Hourglass

"The Hourglass" was a collaborative 2D animation project we worked on in my 2D Motion class. Our aim was to tell a compelling story about the fleeting nature of time. We chose to depict this theme by illustrating a person trapped within an hourglass, losing time while reminiscing about every detail of their life.

The animation begins with a bright and colorful representation of childhood, gradually transitioning as we move towards adulthood and old age. The character and their surroundings become more defined and shift into black and white as the story progresses. This visual transformation symbolizes the character's journey towards the inevitable, gradually sinking into the sand.

Each of us took responsibility for a specific phase of the character's life. Kieran created the child character to portray the early years. Anna-Maria designed the character for the adolescent phase, while Sandra brought the elder character to life, showcasing their senior years. As a group, we each brought our distinct illustration and animation techniques, which added depth and richness to the storyline. As the character aged, the illustrations became more intricate, mirroring the increased awareness and perception that comes with growing older.

"The Hourglass" stands as a testament to our collective creativity and the power of animation to convey the passage of time. It was a project that left a lasting impact on both us as creators and the viewers who experienced the story.
